't happen again. fox 5's melanie alnwick is live at the navy yard station in southeast this morning with the latest. >> reporter: metro is apologizing to passengers foren inconvenience after yesterday's mess and it will hold a debriefing with fire department officials this morning to try to figure out what happened and to prevent it from happening again. d.c. fire trucks and ambulances converged on the anacostia and navy yard stations in the middle of the evening rush hour. there was smoke in the tunnel. metro called firefighters to check on what it called an arcing insulator, a part of the third rail that is generating smoke due to wayward electrical current. firefighters cut power to two trains and that left a lot of riders stuck. passengers were sitting on hot, dark trains not getting much direction they say. one says the conductor told them there was a fire on the track and when the lights went out, people panicked. >> we were on there. women started passing out. somebody had an asthma attack. >> i hit the emergency exit button. that is the center door and it opened up. i procee

this morning on the shooting death of a former navy s.e.a.l. known as the deadliest sniper in u.s. history. 38-year-old chris kyle was killed yesterday along with a second man at a gun range near ft. worth, texas. these are pictures of kyle taken from the security company he founded after leaving the navy. the gunman accused of killing kyle has been identified as eddie ray routh. he is in custody facing two counts of capital murder. earlier i spoke with one of kyle's friends, jason kos, about the man he called a war hero. >> he and a friend took a marine that was suffering from ptsd to a gun range to shoot and as a way that he always did giving back and, you know, it was certainly him taking his time to help, again, help war heroes. >> he had quite a reputation in the field as one of the most lethal snipers out there. how did he handle that? >> you know, he viewed, chris viewed it as his job and he was protecting his brothers, frankly. he as a man was quite contrary to that because he was incredibly loving father and charismatic and really caring person. so, it's quite a contrast from what he

a former navy s.e.a.l., chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield were shot and killed in ft. worth texas. the man who pulled the trigger is a veteran who kyle may have been trying to help with ptsd. susan candiotti joins us live with more. what do we know about how this happened? >> well, got some brand new information during the press conference. first of all, we learned about an alleged confession. and police say they think they also have found the murder weapon, when they describe as a semiautomatic handgun that was found at the suspect's house. let's back up a little bit. after the double shooting at that gun lodge, police say the suspected shooter who's 25-year-old eddie ray ralph took off in kyle's pickup truck. then they said that he went to his sister's house and told her and his brother what had happened, and then left that house. that's when the sister called the police. police put out an all points bulletin and tracked ralph, the suspect to his own house. now, the home was ringed, according to what one police lieutenant told me, with at least a dozen police officers. they trie

of a decorated navy seal who was also a sniper. he was shot and killed along with another man at a gun range >> chris kyle, a former navy seal and author of the best- selling autobiography "american sniper," was shot and killed alongside chad littlefield at a texas gun range saturday. kyle called himself, "the most lethal sniper in u.s. history," and was an outspoken advocate for war veterans. "my only regrets are the guys i couldn't save. that's what keeps me up at night. but every shot i took, i felt extremely justified." police arrested 25-year-old eddie ray routh... a former marine who is believed to have left the service in 2010, according to a u-s military official. the erath county sheriff says the three men apparently went to the gun range together. after the shooting authorities say routh retreated to his sister's house and told her about the incident. she then called police and after a short pusuit, routh was arrested. he is now facing capital murder and two other charges. chris kyle and chad littlefield were both invovled in helping veterans with p-t-s-d... however, it is uncerta

range in texas. one of them is a well-known former navy s.e.a.l. his name is chris kyle and wrote this memoir, "american sniper" after he left the navy s.e.a.l.s. it went on the be a best-seller and propelled him to stardom. susan candiotti is closely following this for us. susan, a little while ago we heard from law enforcement where the shooting happened. what did they say? >> you know we got a lot of details from them, don. and police believe it was actually the very first time that legendary navy s.e.a.l. sniper chris kyle and his friend chad littlefield met with another marine vet, 25-year-old eddie ray routh. and it ended tragically with kyle and littlefield shot dead multiple times of a remote area of a gun range near ft. worth, texas. police say they were found nearly two hours later by a guide at the range. about 25 to 30 other weapons were found at the crime scene, including ak-47s and long guns. investigators say routh drove off in kyle's pickup and headed to his sister's house. there he allegedly told her and his brother what happened. he left, and the two called polic
